Buhari won’t fight Sanusi for criticising FG – Presidency

Buhari won’t fight Sanusi for criticising FG – Presidency

The Presidency on Thursday said President Muhammadu Buhari would not fight the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Mohammadu Sanusi, over his Wednesday’s criticism of the present administration.
Sanusi had said the Buhari-led administration might end up like the immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration if it failed to retrace its steps on some policies.
The traditional ruler, who was the chairman of the 15th meeting of the Joint Planning Board and National Council on Development Planning in Kano State, had argued that the failure of the Buhari-led government to create employment opportunities for “the over 80 million youths in the country,” made terrorism attractive to the unemployed.
But in an interview with our correspondent on Thursday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said criticism such as the one made by the first-class traditional ruler was healthy for democracy.
Rather than fighting the Emir, Shehu said Buhari’s government would listen and act on the criticism.
The presidential spokesman said, “This government will not fight people for criticising the present administration led by President Buhari.  This kind of criticism is healthy for our democracy.  One cannot get better without being criticised. I can assure you that this government is listening.”
Meanwhile, Buhari on Thursday met behind closed doors with the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, in what was believed to be a fallout of Sanusi’s criticism of Buhari.
A Presidency source told our correspondent that the CBN would respond appropriately to Sanusi’s comment.
He said the CBN boss could have used the opportunity of the meeting with the President to get approval to reply Sanusi.
The monarch, who titled his speech, “Nigeria in search of new growth model,” had said some policies of the government were bad for the economy, adding that Buhari must retrace his steps.
He noted that there were times when the Federal Government tried to get it right, adding that it failed to follow up, which contributed to the ongoing economic downturn.
He said, ‘‘I will neither change nor be political by telling people what they want to hear. The truth is that there is nothing we are facing today that we did not know would happen. We made mistakes, many of them deliberate; we ignored every single warning.
“If you take a brand-new car and hand it over to a driver who doesn’t have a licence to drive it and you are involved in an accident, you can’t say you are surprised, unless you are some kind of an idiot.
“We should not just keep blaming the previous administration; we also made some mistakes in the current administration.
“They must retrace their steps. They have to retrace those steps all the way. We should not fall into the same trap we fell the last time when the government was always right. The bottom line is that if your policy is wrong, it means you must change it and nothing will make it right as it has to be changed.
“If this government continues to behave the way the last government behaved, it will end up where Jonathan ended.”

He can see my tweet'- Cristiano Ronaldo shades Gerard Pique after winning UEFA’s best player award

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique early this week trolled Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo as he felt Real Madrid’s Champions League win last season was due to playing some “easy” teams in the run up to the final. When Pique, Shakira's husband was asked in a Twitter Q and A session; “what kind of draw do you want in this year’s Champions League? Pique’s response was:
“An easy group stage, Italy’s 3rd in the round of 16 (Roma), Germany’s 8th in the quarters (Wolfsburg), England’s 4th in semis (Manchester City) and the return leg always at home.”
These were the clubs Real Madrid played against at the group stage last year.

So on Thursday evening, after Cristiano Ronaldo was voted the best player in Europe, he was asked about Pique's dig at him and the club and he smartly replied;
"Well, I’m not going to answer,’ he told the El Larguero radio show. ‘What I can say to Pique is that he can see my tweet (with a) very pretty photo"

Statement on video circulating about Nigerian High Commission, Ottawa, Canada

Read the statement below...
The attention of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa has been drawn to an old CBC video circulating on social media creating an impression that Nigerians in Canada go through hell in securing a new Nigerian Passport. This is not true.
The video in circulation was broadcast on CBC in 2013 and the High Commissioner to Canada at the time, the late Amb. Ojo Maduekwe diligently dealt with the issue then to strengthen the structure of the Passport Section of the Nigeria High Commission, in Ottawa, making it possible to obtain passports in less than a day in Ottawa.

The lady who was at the helm of affairs in Immigration section at the time was asked to leave Ottawa. Not only that, the late Ojo Maduekwe granted interviews to put into perspective what happened and promised Nigerians then that it would never happen again. And it never did. It must be pointed out here that up till today, applicants can obtain their passports in two hours at the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa.

This is verifiable from Nigerians in Canada. It is really uncharitable and worrisome that the video in question was posted on a day late Ambassador Maduekwe was being buried and honoured as a worthy leader and statesman. I appeal to all Nigerians to disregard the video.

While noting and admitting that some of our embassies must step up their attitude in dealing with issues relating to Nigerians in their host countries, President Buhari’s administration is determined to ensure that the rights and welfare of Nigerians whether at home or in the Diaspora remain a major priority of this administration.

Signed
Abdurrahman Balogun

Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston’s love story has reached its first conflict. In the new issue of Us Weekly, a source reveals the pair of two months had “a major argument” in early August. Explains the source of the 26-year-old “Wildest Dreams” singer, who split with Calvin Harris in early June, “They weren’t spending as much time together.”
The issues came from the 35-year-old actor’s busy schedule. 'What I told EFCC about Diezani' – Dauda Lawal

The Executive Director in charge of Public Sector at First Bank, MallamDaudaLawal, has revealed what he told the Economic and Financial Crime Commission when he was detained sometimes ago.

Lawal, in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, said that he was actually questioned about his relationship with a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs.Diezani Alison-Madueke.

He said it was true that his “name has featured prominently in the EFCC investigations of Mrs.Deziani Allison-Madueke, the former Minister of Petroleum Resources under the government of President Goodluck Jonathan”.

Lawal also said he was “questioned by the EFCC over his alleged role or complicity in the alleged $25m acquisition of the Le Meridien Hotel in Port Harcourt.”
He, however, denied the allegation that the former minister channelled the funds for the purchase of the property through him.

Lawal said,
“This allegation is malicious and without substance in any material particular. It must be stated clearly that Lawal is completely oblivious of the ownership status of the said hotel neither is he directly or remotely aware of any transaction involving the former Minister on this hotel.”
He said the allegation must have been fuelled by his close association with Allison-Madueke, which “is based purely on professional pursuits”.
He added,
“As the Executive Director in charge of Public sector of the bank, it is incumbent on him to build the necessary bridges to attract all the benefits the bank can muster from the financial operations of the public sector.
“For the purpose of emphasis, MallamLawalDauda has never been a conduit for movement of illicit funds neither has he been involved in the purchase of any hotel either here or elsewhere. This much was told to the EFCC during his interrogation.”
He added that,
“The former minister, given the influence she wielded within the government and operations in the oil sector was certainly an asset to any corporate Organisation, especially the banks.
All the banks in Nigeria and abroad actively sought to have banking relationships with her because she sat atop a sector which is the prime revenue spinner for the country. It is to Mr.Lawal’s credit that the First Bank group participated actively in offering financial services to the oil industry under Madueke.
